APA scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential undertaking a Higher Degree by Research.
The objectives of the APA scheme are to provide financial support to postgraduate students of exceptional research promise who undertake their higher degree by research (HDR) at USC. APA’s are provided to assist with students’ general living costs.
Awards are available for a period of two years for a master level research degree and three years for doctoral research degrees. Award holders receive an annual stipend and may be eligible for other allowances.
Each year, APA stipend rates for the following year will be announced by the Department of Education and Training prior to 1 October. The APA stipend rate is effective from 1 January.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for an Australian Postgraduate award, applicants must:
- hold a Bachelor degree with First Class honours, or have an equivalent level of attainment via previous study, work experience, research publications, and other research experience; and
- be a domestic student (Australian citizen or permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen), or an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship holder
- not hold an equivalent HDR qualification to that being applied for
- not have previously held an Australian Government-funded research scholarship
- not be receiving an equivalent scholarship, or salary providing a benefit greater than 75 percent of the APA stipend rate to undertake the HDR
- recipients must maintain satisfactory progress as a full-time higher degree by research candidate at the University of the Sunshine Coast
Selection criteria:
- Undergraduate achievement; and
- Research alignment; and
- Publications; and
- most recent or relevant degree.
Eligible programs: PhD, DCA, Master by Research and MCA
Value: 2016 rate is A$26,288 per annum.
