Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships – Australia

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s competitive, merit-based scholarships and fellowships providing opportunities for Australians to undertake study, research or professional development overseas and for overseas citizens to do the same in Australia.

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships build Australia’s reputation for excellence in the provision of education and research, support the internationalisation of the Australian higher education and research sectors and offer high-achieving Australians opportunities to increase their knowledge and expertise in their field.

Applications for the 2018 Round
The 2018 round of the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships is now open. Applications will close 30 June 2017 at 11:59 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

What Endeavour offers
As a scholarship or fellowship recipient, you will gain invaluable international experience in study, research or professional development.

The department has engaged a contractor to provide post-selection support services to all recipients including: a dedicated case manager, pre-departure briefings, advice on health, travel insurance, accommodation, security, payment of allowances, and reporting to the department on recipients’ progress.

When should I submit an application?
Applications must be submitted using the Endeavour Online application system. Please refer to the applications page for further information.

Applicants are encouraged to commence and submit their application as early as possible during the application period due to the large volume of users on the system in the lead up to the closing date. Submitting early ensures that you will not have any last minute technical problems due to the large number of applications being submitted.

How can I be sure my application has been submitted?
The Endeavour Online application system will not allow you to submit your application unless you have filled in all the required components. Once you have completed your application through Endeavour Online, a submit button will appear.

Once you click on the submit button you will receive a system generated email advising your application has successfully been submitted. Please keep a copy of this email for your records. If you have submitted but did not receive a notification email, you may contact the Endeavour Management Team.

How long will it take to have my application assessed?
The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships programme attracts a large number of applications from overseas and Australian applicants, as such the processing time for applications takes several months. All applicants, both successful and unsuccessful are notified of the outcome of their application usually in the December of the round year.

Will successful and unsuccessful applicants be notified of the outcome?
Yes. The department will email all successful and unsuccessful applicants.

What are the success rates of Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships? How many are available?
The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit-based scholarships programme. The department is unable to estimate how many Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships there will be for any one country/category in any round. The number of offers varies annually depending upon financial commitments, levels of demand and the number of meritorious applications received for each category.

Although the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are merit based, final selection may target specific participating countries and regions to support Australian Government international education and research priorities and emerging bilateral education and research relationships.

While we publish the names of successful applicants, we do not publish application data or success rates as we believe that this is not a true indicator of success given the number and quality of applications varies significantly each year. We would also not like to discourage high calibre applicants from applying.

If my application has been unsuccessful, can I be provided with information as to why?
Due to the high volume of applications received, the department does not provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants. There may be a number of reasons why an application does not pass through to the next stage. Please visit the feedback page on the website at the conclusion of the round for the most common reasons why applicants were unsuccessful.

Can I submit my application via post?
We recommend that you use the Endeavour Online application system. If you do not have reliable internet access and are unable to apply online, you can request a hardcopy application form by sending an email stating your country of citizenship/dual citizenship and/or permanent residency, the reason you are unable to apply online and the scholarship or fellowship category and level you wish to apply for to endeavour@education.gov.au. Applicants must have received approval to use a hard copy form. Unsolicited or hard copy applications obtained from other applicants will not be accepted.

Applications submitted on previous round Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship application forms will not be accepted.

What happens if my application is late?
The Endeavour Online application system will not allow you to work on your application after the closing date. Incomplete and/or late applications will not be accepted.

I am an Australian applicant, where can I undertake my proposed Endeavour programme?
Australian recipients must undertake their entire programme in a participating country overseas with the exception of approved fieldwork. Australian recipients must be citizens and/or an official permanent resident of Australia and must remain so for the duration of their programme. Australian recipients must not undertake their programme in a country where they hold citizenship/dual citizenship or permanent residency.
