Global Korea Scholarship Exchange Student Program, Youngsan University

The GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) Exchange Student program is inviting college students to experience and learn about Korean culture. Sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), GKS Exchange Student program will sponsor individuals interested in gaining personal and professional enrichment through learning in Korea.

Youngsan University, in cooperation with the MEST, invites students from partner universities under a full scholarship. Students will join one of any academic programs of Youngsan University, thus earning credits from the Spring semester to the Fall semester (10 months), 2012. Korea Government will cover the airfare, medical insurance and a scholarship of 800,000 KRW (about USD 600-700) per month, while the tuition fee will be waived by Youngsan University. Students are advised to apply for this program through their home university.

The number of participants: 5 undergraduate students

Eligibility
Applicants must fulfill all of the following requirements:

  1. Must maintain their status as a full-time student in their home universities with Youngsan University has established a Student Exchange Agreement.
  2. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study in their home universities.
  3. Have a G.P.A of 3.0 in their 1st and 2nd year of undergraduate study.
  4. Have a good command of spoken and written English or Korean
  5. Meet the criteria of eligibility for D-2 visa set forth by the Korean Immigration Authority.

Required documents

  1. A signed and sealed recommendation letter from your university president
  2. A completed application form
  3. A sealed transcript – transcripts showing at least 2 years of university education
  4. A certificate of university enrollment
  5. A completed resume
  6. A study plan and personal essay
  7. A copy of passport
  8. A photo (3*4 size)
  9. Personal Information – field or major participants wish to study in YSU

Benefits

  1. Monthly Stipend : 800,000 KRW (approximately, USD 600-700)
    • Payment of monthly stipend begins at the end of March, 2012.
    • Monthly stipend will be paid for the maximum of 8 months.
    • It is not awarded during the summer vacation from the middle of June, 2012 to the end of August, 2012.
  2. Round-trip airfare
  3. Health Insurance cover
  4. Settlement Subsidy : 200,000KRW
    • It is only awarded once upon arrival.
  5. Accommodation
    • The dormitory housing will be arranged by Youngsan University during the term of scholarship. However, any and all fees, charges, taxes, expenses, etc. incurred in using the dormitory housing shall be borne by the individual.
