FulbrightThis grant is for Indonesian scholars who hold a doctoral or equivalent degree and intend to carry out research for four to six months in the US.

Interested scholars must be permanent lecturers at an Indonesian university and hold a Nomor Induk Dosen Nasional, or NIDN.

General Requirements
The applicants should:

  • Be Indonesian citizens and not permanent residents of the US, or be currently living in the US
  • Possess leadership qualities and show experience in community service
  • Have preparation in, and a demonstrated commitment to their chosen field of study
  • Be proficient in English
  • Have an outstanding academic record
  • Demonstrate that they can realistically conduct research in the US

Applicant will be ineligible if he or she is an employee, close family member of an employee, or dependent of an employee of AMINEF, the US Embassy, or the US Department of State.

FulbrightThis grant is for three years’ study at a US university to pursue a doctoral degree in any field of study except medical sciences. It is open to applicants who serve as permanent faculty members of state or private universities in Indonesia. In certain cases, grantees can request an exceptional fourth year if a substantial argument for it can be made.

Fulbright US – ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative Program, AMINEF, USA

FulbrightThe Fulbright US–ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative provides opportunities for nationals of the ten ASEAN countries (Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for three to four months on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN. The program is open to application from university faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professional staff in the private sector, of think tanks, or of other NGOs in ASEAN member states.

The objective of the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative is to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen our educational ties with the ten member nations of ASEAN, while emphasizing the importance of ASEAN. This marks the sixth year of the Initiative. To date, 50 scholars from all 10 ASEAN Member States have been awarded scholarships to pursue studies focused on a wide range of subjects including teaching English as a second language, maritime security, climate change, health, political security, and wildlife trafficking.

Applications are accepted from citizens of all ASEAN member states. It is anticipated that 10 qualified applicants will be selected annually, preferably representing all 10 members states.

General Requirements
Applicants from Indonesia should be:

  • Indonesian citizen and resident in Indonesia throughout the nomination and selection process
  • Willing to return to Indonesia upon completion of their program in the United States
  • University lecturers, foreign ministry and government officials, or professionals in think tanks and other NGOs whose work focuses on US–ASEAN issues
  • Have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishment
  • Be proficient in English.
  • In good health, to be certified by submission of medical history and pre-departure medical examination

Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers (Fulbright DAI), USA

FulbrightFulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers (FULBRIGHT DAI) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State and is administered by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX). Fulbright DAI offers an opportunity for outstanding primary and secondary-level school educators to come to the United States for a professional development program for a semester to pursue individual or group projects, take courses for professional development at a host university, and observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university or local primary and secondary schools. The program will provide approximately 54 teachers with a unique opportunity to develop greater expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, increase their knowledge about the US, and complete an individual or group project.

Fulbright DAI will start in January 2019 and conclude in May 2019. Participants will audit courses in the host university’s School or Department of Education, and thus will be part of the general university community. The program will include opportunities to observe and co-teach with US teachers in a US school near the host university, in order to actively engage participants in the US classroom environment. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program.

The Fellowship provides:

  • J-1 Visa support
  • A pre-departure orientation held in participant’s home country
  • Round-trip airfare to and within the US
  • A Welcome Program in Washington, DC
  • Academic program fees
  • Housing (generally shared with other program fellows) and meals
  • Accident and sickness medical coverage (does not cover pre-existing conditions)
  • Transportation to local schools (if necessary)
  • A daily allowance for incidentals during the university academic program

Interested applicants who are currently permanent lecturers at an Indonesian university and hold an NIDN should apply to the parallel program under Fulbright Grants for Indonesian Lecturers – PhD.

Fulbright grants may be used for study or research in most disciplines and fields of study with the exception of medicine related to patient care or clinical patient contact. Proposals in humanities, arts, and social sciences, and in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and health are equally welcome. Applications in STEM fields are encouraged that focus on environmental preservation, alternative energy exploration, or climate change mitigation.

Preference will be given to applicants who plan to teach in an Indonesian university and those who have never previously received a Fulbright scholarship.

Specific Requirements
The applicants should:

  • Hold a master’s degree (S2)
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.00 scale)
  • Have a minimum TOEFL ITP score of 575 or IELTS equivalent
  • Have the intention to take up, or return to, an academic position upon completion of the degree

Community College Initiative Program, American Indonesian Exchange Foundation, USA

FulbrightThe Community College Initiative Program (CCIP) provides a quality non-degree academic program at US community colleges intended to build technical skills, enhance leadership capabilities, and strengthen English language proficiency. The program also provides opportunities for professional internships, service learning, and community engagement activities.

Participants spend one academic year in the United States and may earn certificates in their fields of study. After completing the program, participants return home with new skills and expertise to help them contribute to the economic growth and development of their country.

CCIP participants are recruited from historically underrepresented and underserved communities. In Indonesia this means AMINEF aims to recruit applicants beyond Indonesia’s major cities and in provinces beyond Java Island, which historically have had fewer opportunities for study abroad.

A special initiative funded by PT Freeport Indonesia allows a certain number of candidates from the provinces of Papua and West Papua every year to receive CCIP awards.

Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, American Indonesian Exchange Foundation, USA

FulbrightThe Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (also known as the Global UGRAD Program) is sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is a fully-funded scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at an assigned U.S. college or university.

It aims to recruit participants from underrepresented, non-elite backgrounds and emerging leaders committed to their home communities. Successful applicants get an in-depth exposure to US society, culture, and academic institutions, a chance to enhance their knowledge, and an opportunity to share their cultures and traditions with people in the United States.

All participants will be enrolled in full-time, non-degree, undergraduate course work chosen from their host institution’s existing curriculum. Participants will be required to enroll in at least two courses in their major and at least one course in a U.S. Studies field, such as U.S. history, literature, art, or government. Participants will live in campus housing facilities with American peers, and will be required to participate in twenty hours of community service. There will also be a virtual arrival orientation and an in-person end-of-program workshop.

Grant benefits include international travel, tuition, room and board, accident/sickness insurance, monthly stipend, and funding for books.

Eligibility
Applicants should:

  • Be an Indonesian citizen
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program (S1/D4) in Indonesia, having completed a minimum of one semester of study and having at least one more semester to complete at their home institution upon return. Preference will be given to those who are in their third or fifth semester.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrate a command of written and spoken English as attested by a recent (less than two years old) TOEFL ITP or TOEFL Prediction score of 500
  • Be committed to return directly to Indonesia after the completion of the program

Hubert H Humphrey Fellowship Program for Mid-Career Professionals, American Indonesian Exchange Foundation, USA

FulbrightHubert H. Humphrey Fellowships enable Indonesian mid-career professionals to participate in non-degree programs that combine academic course work at the graduate level with professional development activities in the U.S. for a period of one academic year (9 months). Candidates are typically administrators in leadership positions with a minimum of five years of work experience who represent either the public or non-profit private sectors, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) who are committed to public service.

Applicants will possess:

  1. a Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale). S2 graduates are also welcomed to apply.
  2. a minimum ITP TOEFL score of 525 or IBT TOEFL score of 70/71 or IELTS 6.0. In this case, TOEFL-Like or TOEFL prediction may be considered.
