Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP), Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand

ADB-JSP scholarships are awarded at designated institutions (DIs) in the Asia and Pacific region for studies in economics, business and management, science and technology and other development-related fields.

Eligibility

  • A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship)
  • A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
  • At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at a time of application.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
  • Not more than 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years old.
  • In good health.
  • Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.
  • Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  • Staff of AIT are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  • Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the scholarships.
  • ADB-JSP does not support applicants who are already enrolled in graduate degree programs.
  • ADB-JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects.

National University of Singapore The Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship is a freshmen scholarship offered to support outstanding students from Asian countries (excluding Singapore).

Candidates will be considered and shortlisted for the scholarship through their applications for undergraduate admission to NUS. No separate application is required for the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must:

  • Be citizens of an Asian country, excluding Singapore
  • Have strong leadership qualities and potential
  • Present excellent co-curricular activities records
  • Possess outstanding high school results

Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship, University for Peace, Philippines & Costa Rica

The Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship (APS) is a shared initiative of The Nippon Foundation, the University for Peace (UPEACE), and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). The objective of the programme is to train young Asian professionals to become peacebuilding practitioners, ready to take up leading positions in organisations across the globe. In particular, the programme serves to strengthen the representation of Asian professionals with expertise in Asian issues.

The programme offers intensive, specialised language training to facilitate the participation of professionals with lower levels of English proficiency, thus allowing them to study in both Costa Rica and The Philippines. Scholars obtain a Master of Arts Degree from the University for Peace (UPEACE) in an area related to peacebuilding, and a Master’s Degree in Transdisciplinary Social Development from Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU).

Scholarship Benefits
Students selected to participate in the APS programme receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, airfare, transit and some visa costs for all programme components, and a monthly stipend. The programme facilititates up to 30 students per cohort.

Programme Overview
The APS is an intensive academic study programme targeted towards young professionals from Asia. Academic study takes place in Costa Rica and The Philippines and is made up of the following elements: 1) intensive language learning component, 2) M.A. at UPEACE, 3) MTSDev at AdMU, and 4) field project implementation.

Gender and Fisheries Scholarship, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand

Two partial scholarships available for qualified candidates with excellent undergraduate achievements from any Asian country to pursue a Master’s Degree in Gender and Fisheries. One scholarship each is available for study these two Academic Programs under School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD):

Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program, Zhejiang University, China

The Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) grants scholarships to high caliber Asian students studying abroad within Asia. Under the administration of Bai Xian Asia Institute (BXAI), the AFLSP provides a platform on which students and educational institutions can cultivate lasting relationships based on mutual trust and understanding—essential tools for building bridges across cultures.

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is participating in the AFLSP as one of its Anchor Universities. Applications for School of Public Affairs, School of Economics, School of Management, College of Media and International Culture, School of Humanities, School of International Studies and College of Education will be given priority.

COVERAGE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tuition waiver;
  • Free accommodation on campus;
  • Living allowance: CNY 6,000 per month (ten months per year, up to two years);
  • International students medical insurance (relevant medical insurance items can be found on http://en.lxbx.net)

Note: the scholarship duration is two academic years regardless of length of schooling.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must hold citizenship of an Asian country (other than the People’s Republic of China).
  2. Applicants must be in good health condition.
  3. Applicants must be Bachelor degree holders or graduating students normally at the age of 35 or below (born after April 30, 1983).
  4. Applicants must have academic excellence, honesty and integrity, open vision, sense of responsibility and mission.
  5. Applicants must appreciate the mission and vision of the AFLSP Program.
  6. If admitted to the Program, applicants shall stay enrolled as a full-time student at Zhejiang University and actively participate in various activities organized by the university.
  7. Applicants must agree to sign a student commitment letter stipulated by Bai Xian Asia Institute.
  8. Language proficiency requirements:
    1. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs of literature, history, philosophy, education and law should have a level 4 HSK certificate with minimum score of 210, or HSK certificate of level 5 or above; applicants for other Chinese-taught programs should have a level 4 HSK certificate with minimum score of 190, or HSK certificate of level 5 or above. Applicants with TOEFL or IELTS certificates will be given priority.
    2. There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for applicants of English-taught programs, but they (except for English native speakers) must have an internet-based TOEFL test score of 90 or IELTS test score of 6.5 (or above).

Nikkei and Columbia Journalism School Scholarships, Columbia University, USA

Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Nikkei, Inc., parent company of the Financial Times, the publisher of the Nikkei, and the Nikkei Asian Review, announced today a new $100,000 scholarship for a student who is a resident in Asia. The Columbia-Nikkei Scholarship will be awarded annually for the next five years to exemplary candidates who wish to specialize in data and business journalism. Each September, the school will announce whether it seeks scholarship applicants interested in business and data journalism.

“It is our great pleasure and honor to form this new partnership with the Columbia Journalism School,” said Naotoshi Okada, President & CEO, Nikkei Inc. “We believe Columbia’s strong leadership in the area of journalism and firm commitment to the international regime of freedom of expression can enhance our Global & Growth Strategy together with the Financial Times not only in the Asia-Pacific region but globally.”

Nikkei has more than 40 companies in newspapers and publishing, broadcasting, events, database services and index businesses. Their 280 editorial staff operate across 37 bureaus overseas.

The Columbia-Nikkei Scholarship comes at a time when the Columbia Journalism School recently unveiled a three-semester Master of Science in Data Journalism degree. Students enrolled in this track will receive the hands-on training they need to report data-driven stories in the public interest. The new offering does not require prior experience with data or coding.

Asia Studies Fellowship, East-West Center, Washington – USA

The East-West Center (EWC) accepts applications from scholars and analysts who wish to undertake research and writing on topics of relevance to contemporary US-Asia policy. We are particularly interested in proposals regarding key challenges in U.S.-Asia relations and possible responses and approaches to addressing those challenges. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to: competing economic initiatives in Asia, regional institutions as well as sustaining U.S. alliances and partnerships.

The fellowship finances residencies for a period of three months at the East-West Center in Washington in Washington, D.C. Exceptional proposals that justify six months will be considered if funds and space allow. While in residence, the fellows will complete an article or monograph to be considered for publication such as the Asia Pacific Issues series or the Policy Studies series. Selected participants must also publish at least one Asia Pacific Bulletin. The first full draft of the Asia Pacific Issues series or the Policy Studies series manuscript should be completed before the end of the residency period. Fellows must also give a public seminar on their topic. Alternative formats for the publication or public presentation may be considered on an individual basis, but must be approved by the director of the EWC in Washington.

The fellowship includes a monthly stipend of US$2,500 to $5,000 (dependent upon experience) while in residence at EWC in Washington, round trip economy airfare to Washington, D.C., and reimbursement of any applicable visa fees. Residency may begin as early as March 2017 and extend through September 2017. All fellowships must conclude by September 30. Fellows are responsible for securing their own housing and medical insurance coverage during their term of residency.

Requirements
Applicants with or without a Ph.D. will be considered; those without a Ph.D. will be considered based on their relevant professional experience. Applicants must be nationals of a country from the Asia-Pacific or the United States (see below for a list of eligible countries) and eligible to receive a fellowship stipend. Successful applications will include a completed online application form, a full CV, two letters of reference, and a policy-relevant research proposal of five pages (double spaced). The proposal should discuss the policy problem or issue to be examined and a tentative hypothesis and arguments. A brief bibliography of the relevant literature is also welcome but not required. Each proposal must make the case that the proposed project can be completed in three months and that a fellowship in Washington, D.C. would further this research (For example: by interviewing government officials/policy experts, access to archives at local institutions etc.)

Imam Bukhari & Imam Tirmizi Visiting Research Fellowships, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, UK

University of Oxford, UKApplications for the academic year 2014-2015 are invited for the Imam Bukhari and Imam Tirmizi Visiting Research Fellowships. Applicants should be citizens of countries in Asia or Africa. Preference will be given to those studying classical Islamic sciences, although other areas in the humanities and social sciences will be considered. These Fellowships each carry a stipend of £3,000 and membership of the Common Room. The stipend is intended as a supplementary award and may be held in conjunction with other research grants, stipends, or sabbatical salaries.

The Fellowships will be tenable from 1 October 2014 for a minimum period of three months. These Fellowships are intended to encourage interaction among academics from various traditions of learning. The Imam Bukhari and Imam Tirmizi Research Fellows will be expected to devote their time to research and writing and to participate in the Centre’s academic activities.

Application Procedure
Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a brief statement of proposed research. Two letters of recommendation should be sent directly to the Centre.

Asian Graduate Student Fellowships, Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore

National University of SingaporeThe Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from citizens of Asian countries enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore) for consideration for the award of Asian Graduate Student Fellowships. These fellowships are offered to current graduate students doing their Master’s or PhD degrees and working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of six (6) weeks. The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. Scholars will be expected to commence on 16 May 2014, and to make a presentation on their work at a “Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies” to be organised at the end of June 2014.

Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:

  • A pro-rated monthly allowance based on SGD1,250
  • Reimbursement for cost of Training Employment Pass and Visa fees
  • A one-time round trip travel subsidy by the most economical and direct route (via budget airline if available) on a reimbursement basis upon being accepted for the fellowship

Asian Women In Business Scholarship Fund, USA

The Asian Women In Business Scholarship encourages and promotes exceptional Asian female students who have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, community service and/ or entrepreneurship. The AWIB Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students who have the attributes to be our next generation of leaders.

ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates for the scholarship must be female of Asian (includes those who can trace their ancestry from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam) or Pacific Islander ancestry and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Candidates must also fulfill the following criteria to be considered:

  • Have at least one or more of the following:
    a) demonstrated a leadership role in a community endeavor and/or b) a record of entrepreneurial achievement
  • Enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year undergraduate institution in the U.S. at the time of application and award. Please be advised that this scholarship is for currently enrolled undergraduates who have completed at least one semester.
  • Carry a minimum of 3.0 (out of 4.0) GPA at the time of application (H.S. credit/grades do not count towards this scholarship)
  • Provide the most recent college transcript; semi-finalists will be required to provide their official college transcript
