Jardine Scholarship Awards – Jardine Foundation

The Jardine Foundation was set up in 1982 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Jardine Matheson Group. The Foundation offers qualified students from Asia full scholarships to study at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. The goal is to develop future leaders who will give back to the communities where the Group operates. Scholarships are available for courses at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, with strong preference being given to undergraduate courses at the following Colleges:

  1. University of Cambridge – Downing, Magdalene, Peterhouse, Trinity
  2. University of Oxford – Exeter, Oriel, The Queen’s, Trinity

In addition to scholarships for undergraduate studies, the Foundation also offers a limited number of scholarships for postgraduate studies. Potential candidates are recommended through the preferred Colleges at Oxford and Cambridge for students who have already been accepted by the Universities.

Since the launch of the Foundation, scholarships have been awarded to over 370 outstanding students from Cambodia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Full Master & PhD Scholarships in Agriculture by SEARCA

SEARCA‘s Graduate Study Program was initiated in School Year 1968/1969. Over five decades, the scope of the Graduate Study Program has expanded to include institutional development, networking, and services to enhance graduate education in the region. SEARCA has also been providing services for administration of scholarship funds under the sponsorship of institutions other than SEAMEO.

As of the start of Academic Year 2019-2020, SEARCA has granted a total of 1,737 scholarships to nationals of SEAMEO member countries, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam to pursue advanced studies leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in agriculture, forestry, and related sciences (see scholarship statistics).

Eligibility

  • Open to nationals of SEAMEO member countries who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies
  • Must not be more than 35 (Master’s Degree) or 40 (PhD) years of age at the time of application
  • Areas of specialization that scholarship applicants must pursue should be in agriculture or related sciences, which include but are not limited to those that fall under the following program clusters: Agricultural/Biological sciences, Forestry and Fisheries, Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Economics and Agribusiness, Agro-industrial Technology and Engineering
  • Proposed thesis research should focus on SEARCA’s overarching theme of Accelerating Transformation Through Agricultural Innovation (ATTAIN) with the following priority areas:
    • Agri-Business Models for Increased Productivity and Income
    • Sustainable Farming Systems and Natural Resource Management
    • Food and Nutrition Security
    • Transformational Leadership for ARD
    • Gender and Youth Engagement in ARD
    • Enhanced ARD towards Climate Resilience

PhD Research Scholarships, Southeast Asian Regional Center in Agriculture (SEARCA)

In November 2005, SEARCA established the PhD Research Scholarship, which provides financial support to qualified PhD students whose researches are relevant to the priority thrusts of SEARCA (see scholarship statistics).

The PhD research scholarship aims to:

  1. Provide PhD students the opportunity to use the resources and facilities available at SEARCA and its network of universities for their research;
  2. Produce quality research papers for publication; and
  3. Enable them to work with SEARCA’s R&D personnel on mutually identified areas of concerns/interests in agriculture and rural development.

Eligibility
Priority 1. Southeast Asian nationals who are enrolled in PhD programs in any of the member universities under the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC)[1].

Priority 2. Southeast Asian nationals who are regular staff members of government agencies or non-profit development-oriented institutions, and are PhD students of agricultural universities outside of UC.

Research Topics
The topic of the applicant’s PhD research must be aligned with SEARCA’s thrusts of Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development (ISARD) towards food security and poverty alleviation in Southeast Asia. Specifically, its focus must be in any of the following areas:

Social Inclusion in Agriculture and Rural Development

  • Participation of poor and vulnerable sectors of rural societies in food and agricultural value chains and agribusiness commodity systems;
  • Food and nutrition security for poor and vulnerable sectors of rural societies; and
  • Productivity-enhancing innovations and modern technologies.

Master Scholarships in International Development Studies, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand

The Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS), Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand is now open for applications for those who wish to pursue a master’s degree in international development studies.

MAIDS is a one-year multi-disciplinary international program taught in English language. There is one award of approximately £5,000 available for those who apply for a taught masters programme.

Eligibility
The scholarship is available for a one year taught masters programme in any subject.

Applicants need to be nationals of Burma, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

How to apply
To be considered for this scholarship, you must have completed the 2017/18 LSE Graduate Financial Support Application form and received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) by 5pm UK time on 26 April 2017. You must complete Section G – Personal Statement.

When you submit an application for admission to a taught masters programme, the Graduate Admissions Office will acknowledge your application and provide information about how to set up an LSE For You online account. This account will allow you to track the progress of your application for admission, and will provide you with access to the LSE Graduate Financial Support Application Form. The LSE Graduate Financial Support Application form will be available until 26 April 2017.

ASEAN Leaders Fostering Program, Daejeon University, Korea

ASEAN Leaders Fostering Program, previously named as ASEAN Millennium Leaders College Student Exchange Programme, is an ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Project between the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and Daejeon University (DJU). The project is jointly funded by the ASEAN-ROK Future Oriented Cooperation Programs Funds and Daejeon University.

The Programme offers exchange scholarships for 20 undergraduate students from ASEAN student to study at Daejeon University, the Republic of Korea (ROK). The scholarship includes tuition fees, room and board, round-trip ticket, basic medical insurance and living allowance (USD 300 per month) for one academic year.

Daejeon University has specialized curriculum and ample experience with ASEAN student, so DJU is the only university which has launched the ASEAN – ROK International College Student Exchange Program since 2002. DJU provides ASEAN students with the opportunity to become leading role models in the future by taking the advanced level classed, while using our fully technologically equipped facilities for one academic year.

Also, our program is dedicated in cultivating students to become leaders of ASEAN Nations, especially through our internship program at internationally well known organizations in Korea such as UN-APCICT, IFEZ, KNCU, KIEP and ASEAN-Korea Centre We have witnessed our students contribute to diplomatic relations between ASEAN and ROK.

ASEAN University Network (AUN)
The ASEAN University Network was established in November 1995 under the Charter signed by the Ministers responsible for higher education in ASEAN countries. The AUN is perceived as a mechanism to help hasten solidarity and development of regional identity through the promotion of the existing network of leading universities and higher education institutions in ASEAN region. Currently, the AUN is actively involved in collaborative projects with the following partners; P.R. China, the European Union, United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. The International College Student Exchange Program between ROK and ASEAN Nations is one of the collaborative projects with ROK.

Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – PANACEA

Panacea Erasmus MundusPANACEA is an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project funded by the European Commission aiming the set up of academic and Staff mobility between universities from Asia Regional (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, North Korea) with a European university consortium. All the studies levels are foreseen in the frame of this project (Undergraduate, Master, Doctorate, Post-doc and Staff) and the consortium is composed by 8 European universities and 12 Third countries universities. All partner universities of the consortium offer study programmes and training in many fields and are linked with research laboratories recognized in these domains.

Practical details

  • Mobility are implemented exclusively between European universities and Third countries universities (no mobility within the European consortium or within the Third country consortium).
  • Mobility are organized in one way (Asian Universities – EU).
  • The PANACEA programme began on July the 15th 2012 and will finish on July the 14th 2016 (48 months). One cohort is planned for this project.

Lotus, Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for South-East Asian Students to Europe

Lotus is an Erasmus Mundus Action Two Partnership (EMA2) of European and South-East Asian Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and Associations aiming at fostering mutual enrichment and better understanding between the EU and South-East Asia (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand), through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at higher education level and to co-operate in the following program activities:

  • Mobility of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Mobility of PhD students
  • Post-doc mobility
  • Academic and administrative staff mobility

The types of mobility to be funded are:

  • For students: undergraduate, master, doctorate and post-doctorate mobility opportunities
  • For academic staff: exchanges for the purposes of teaching, practical training and research

This project is to give South-East Asian students and staff the possibility to go to a European University to improve, enrich, learn, experience, …. their own knowledge and skills. Please bear in mind that the scholarships are only granted to South-East Asian students and staff coming to Europe.

To enable students to benefit in a linguistic, cultural and educational way from the experience of pursuing academic studies in another country, all students should have a thorough command of English (this can only be proven by means of internationally recognized documents, p.e. IELTS certificate, TOEFL, First Certificate of Cambridge, an English diploma, a Degree obtained in English). Please note, however, that this also depends on the language requirements of the host universities within the Lotus project.
