The School of Politics and International Relations has a long tradition of welcoming international students from around the world and is pleased to be able to offer a small number of scholarships for entry at taught master’s level.

University of Kent

Our scholarships are open to all overseas applicants on MA taught programmes offered by the School at the Canterbury campus.

We have two types of scholarship are available. The first will reduce tuition fees for overseas students to £10,000 (an award of £4,670), we intend to make three awards of this scholarship. The second will offer a 10% reduction on overseas fees.

We will award the Scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and will consider students with a 2.1 or above for an award.

Young Talented Leaders Scholarships, IE University, Spain

The IE Foundation, in collaboration with AJE, is offering the Young Talented Leaders Scholarships for students from Indonesia and Thailand for the academic year 2014-2015. The scholarships are directed at students who are looking to pursue their university studies at IE University, and who possess high personal potential and excellent academic qualifications.

IE University Spain

The scholarships will cover all tuition fees, transportation and accommodation in Spain for the scholarship recipient for the duration of the degree program at IE University. These scholarships apply to applicants who want to pursue one of the following four-year bachelor degrees:

  • Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA)
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)
  • Bachelor in Communication
  • Bachelor in Psychology
  • Bachelor in International Relations

Hedley Bull Scholarships for MA International Relations, Australian National University, Australia

Australian National University ANUThe Graduate Studies in International Affairs program offers up to four Hedley Bull Scholarships each year for full-time study in the Master of Arts (International Relations) commencing in semester one. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Master of Arts (International Relations).

When applying for the MA (International Relations), eligible applicants for the Hedley Bull Scholarship should include a covering letter indicating their interest in being considered for the scholarship and making the case for being granted one. The covering letter together with the application for the MA (International Relations) (including transcripts and three academic references) will be considered as the full application for the scholarship. There is no need to provide a separate application. The scholarship provides a full-fee waiver for three full-time sessions (semesters). This amounts to 48 units of graduate coursework and a 24-unit thesis session.

Admission requirements

MA (International Relations) (MAIR) and Master of International Affairs (MIA)
Applicants for the MIA or MAIR programs should normally have obtained at least a Distinction average in a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Honours, or the equivalent. The degree should be in any discipline of the social sciences or the humanities, although exceptional candidates with degrees from other fields will be considered. As a guide, Distinction refers to an A/B+ average, 2(1) Hons in the British system or 14/20 in the French system.

Applicants with a Bachelors degree may be made an offer to enter the Graduate Certificate in International Relations (GCIR) or Graduate Diploma in International Affairs (GDIA), with the possibility of transferring into the MIA or MAIR programs, if they achieve a Distinction average in the GCIR or GDIA.

MA Scholarships in Politics & International Relations, University of Nottingham, UK

University of Nottingham UKEach scholarship amounts to a £1000 reduction in fees for students (home/EU or international) on one of the taught MA programmes currently running in the School of Politics and International Relations.

Please note that to be eligible for the scholarships:

  • Applicants must hold an offer to study on a taught MA programme in the School of Politics and International Relations to commence study in September 2013.
  • Applicants must meet any conditions set for their admission to the courses
  • Holders of the scholarships are required to write their dissertations on a subject related to the Asia-Pacific region, broadly defined to include Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia

The closing date for the scholarship competition is Friday 14th June 2013. There is no separate application form for the scholarships. Applicants should provide a side of A4 paper outlining details of their intended dissertation topic and a covering letter explaining why a Tomlinson scholarship would be of particular benefit to them.

Total Summer School Scholarships in Paris, France

Total E&P Indonesie Université Total is inviting around 120 students from around the world to take part in a weeklong summer school session to analyze and discuss major energy issues and challenges, alongside key managers and a number of experts from science, research and business. The seventh session of the Total Summer School will be held from July 1st to 6th 2013, in Paris, France.

The Total Summer School is intended for students who are about to start their final year of study before graduation at the top schools, universities and educational institutions in our main partner countries. Participants will focus on several key issues and challenges facing international oil and chemical companies such as:

  • Economic: Is the global tension between energy supply and demand here to stay?
  • Geopolitical: What are the main causes of uncertainty and tension and how can they be alleviated?
  • Energy diversification: Are there credible, competitive alternatives to finite resources, in particular in the transportation segment?
  • Environment: What strategies can be deployed to combat global warming?
  • Social and managerial responsibility: How can our ethical and managerial values be made compatible with the wide diversity of countries, people and situations?

These topics will be addressed at round table discussions, presentations and workshops. In smaller workshops, students will be able to contribute actively to the program, share ideas, express their views and ask questions about the main topics of the seminar.

PhD Scholarships in Social Sciences, Brunel University, UK

We are delighted to announce nine funded PhD studentships* in social sciences at Brunel University for UK, EU and international students for a January 2012 start, (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The School of Social Sciences is providing opportunities for promising academic talent to undertake doctoral study. This is a significant opportunity for those who show academic excellence in our areas of expertise.

Career Development Fellow in Media and Democracy, University of Oxford, UK

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and the Department of Politics and International Relations seek a candidate for a 3-year postdoctoral position in media and democracy with an appointment date of 1st January 2012 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The appointment is expected to be made on the University’s grade 8 salary scale (£36,862 – £44,016 pa). However, if the selected candidate does not fully meet all the selection criteria, the appointment may be made on the grade 7 scale (£29,099 – £35,788 pa), with the possibility of moving up to grade 8 during year 2 or 3 of the appointment.

The successful candidate will have expertise in two of the following areas and will pursue advanced research in at least one of them:

  • Media and democratization
  • Media in post-authoritarian regimes
  • Media and democratic accountability
  • Media and political campaigns

Candidates are expected to have either a doctorate in political science and significant experience and understanding of media/journalism empirical research and theory; or a doctorate in media/journalism studies and significant experience and understanding of political research and theory. A strong early-career record of academic publication and conference presentations is expected.

Master Scholarships in Politics, International Relations & Law, University of Kent in Brussels, Belgium

The University of Kent’s campus in Brussels awards seven annual taught Masters scholarships, six are in politics and international relations and one is in law.

Scholarships for our MA programmes are awarded twice per year; normally in June for students starting in September and in November for those starting in January.

Successful candidates will be registered at the University of Kent as full time students on the taught programmes stated above and will receive payment to cover 50% of their tuition fees (€7,735 in 2011/2012). These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.

To submit an application for a masters programme, please follow the instructions as detailed on the following webpage: http://www.kent.ac.uk/brussels/BSIS/admissions/index.html. Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain, a relevant undergraduate degree at least at First Class level (UK), or GPA 3.5 (US) or equivalent.

Once candidates have been accepted onto a programme at UKB, they should then send a letter/email to ukbschols2@kent.ac.uk confirming their wish to be considered for a scholarship and explaining why they believe that they should be awarded one. Candidates should ensure that their application number is mentioned on their letter/email and indicate ‘scholarships’ in the subject title.
