Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship (VCPS), RMIT University, Australia

RMIT University AustraliaScholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential to local and international candidates undertaking a research doctoral degree.

The Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships (VCPS) are funded by RMIT University.

Value and duration
The VCPS provides the following benefits to recipients:

  • a stipend of $42,384.50 per annum pro rata (full-time study) which represents a generous RMIT top up of approximately $15,000 above the RTP rate
  • a research support allowance of $5,000 per annum to support research activities
  • a HDR publication award of $10,000 (payable on thesis submission). Candidates must submit their thesis within three and a half years (or equivalent part-time) to be eligible for award
  • a relocation allowance for the cost of relocating in order to take up their postgraduate research program, up to $515 per adult and $255 per child to a maximum of $1,540
  • paid sick, maternity and parenting leave (within the limits of the Scholarship Terms and Conditions).

If you are a local candidate, you will also receive a government-funded Research Training Program (RTP) place or equivalent. An RTP place is supported with a HECS exemption for the standard duration of the course. Applicants successful in receiving an RTP place are not required to pay tuition fees for the maximum duration of their candidature.

PhD Studentships in Experimental Particle Physics, University of Sussex, UK

University of Sussex, UKThe University of Sussex Experimental Particle Physics group plays a critically important role in a number of experiments at the frontiers of our knowledge of particle physics, with main involvement in: the ATLAS experiment and its upgrades at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, the SNO+ neutrinoless double beta decay experiment at SNOLAB (Canada), the NOvA and DUNE neutrino oscillation experiments at Fermilab (USA), and the Neutron EDM experiment at PSI (Switzerland).

We are presently offering several fully funded studentships on these experiments available to UK and EU nationals for a September 2017 start. Funded studentships cover a tax free bursary (£14,553 per annum in 2017/18) and home/EU fees for 3.5 years. Additional financial support is provided to cover short-term and long-term travel. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be held in February and March. There are also funding opportunities for non-EU students to work on projects in our group through a China Scholarship Council/Sussex joint scholarship (open to Chinese nationals) and the Sussex Chancellor’s International Research Scholarship (open to any nationality).

MSc in Engineering Scholarships, University of Southern Denmark

The University constantly seeks students of the highest quality, and, in recognition of the important investment that overseas students are making in their education, we are pleased to offer scholarships to certain applicants!

There are a few scholarship schemes at the University of Southern Denmark. The largest one is the Danish Government Scholarship – supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

Through this scheme the Faculty of Engineering offers scholarships to highly qualified students enrolled in the two-year master degree study programmes in engineering:

Closing Dates and Important Notes
You MUST apply for the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law in London before applying for a scholarship – your application ID number is a requirement.

You must have applied for this programme by 4 June 2018 to then be eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The online form must be completed and submitted with relevant documentation (detailed below) no later than 23:59h BST on 2 July 2018.

Any student who has applied for the LLM Programme by 4 June 2018 and has not received an LLM offer of study by 25 June 2018 should contact llmscholarships@qmul.ac.uk (not the admissions team) and quote the date of application and their application number in order for us to look into this.

What does this scholarship cover? How are they paid?
For the successful candidates, his/her tuition fees payable to Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) – the equivalent of £14,250 for a Home/EU student or £20,700 for a non-Home/EU student – will be covered entirely by the scholarship in the form of a fee waiver. Please note the scholarship does not cover any additional living costs or flights etc.

PhD Studentship in Space Instrumentation (MicroADS Mission), University of Sussex, UK

University of Sussex, UKApplications are invited for a prestigious fully-funded 3 year PhD studentship in Space Instrumentation at the University of Sussex. The successful applicant will join the MicroADS mission team in the Space Research Group. MicroADS is a novel satellite attitude determination system which offers star-tracker levels of performance in a much smaller instrument. It is anticipated that MicroADS will be flown on a LEO demonstrator mission in c.2021.

About the PhD Studentship
You will work on developing the MicroADS instrument hardware and on board instrument software, with the exact split between these activities determined by your aptitude and the instrument’s needs. Your work will include development and characterisation of the instrument optics, electronics, and interfaces with spacecraft systems. The PhD requires a strong practical/experimental background in physics and/or spacecraft engineering.

About the Space Research Group
The Space Research Group conducts fundamental and applied work in a variety of areas related to space science, spacecraft engineering, and high performance hardware for terrestrial environments. The group is particularly well known for its world-leading contributions in: X-ray spectrometers for astronomy and planetary science; e spectrometers for space plasma physics; radioisotope microbatteries; compound semiconductor material physics; spacecraft GNC systems; and extreme environment instrumentation. The Space Research Group is entrepreneurial, business-focused, and committed to the highest quality of scientific research.

About the PhD supervisor
The PhD will be supervised by Prof. Anna M. Barnett. Prof. Barnett is Professor of Space Research and Director of the Sussex Space Research Group. She is an experimental physicist with internationally recognised expertise in detector physics and instrumentation for space science and extreme terrestrial environments (high temperature, intense radiation). As of April 2018, Prof. Barnett holds research funding totalling >£2M in value. She has won numerous prizes and awards including the 2016 Philip Leverhulme Prize, and she is the youngest person ever awarded a Personal Chair at University of Sussex (equivalent to a US Full Professor with Tenure).
