International Undergraduate Scholarships, Liverpool John Moores University, UK

A £6,000 tuition fee waiver for every year of the student’s undergraduate course as long as a 2:1 is maintained. These will be awarded to exceptional new students joining the University in September 2016 (excluding distance learning programmes).

Am I eligible?
In order to be considered for this award you must:

  • have, or be expected to achieve, grades ABB at A Level or equivalent qualification
  • have an overall English IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component) or recognised equivalent
  • be a self-funded student from Africa, the ASEAN countries, the People’s Republic of China or Commonwealth country
  • have a conditional/unconditional offer to study an undergraduate degree at LJMU in September 2016
  • not be holding a scholarship from any other source/scheme
  • complete the scholarship application form

Applications are invited for an MPhil/PhD studentship at the Faculty of Health and Applied Social Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University UK in collaboration with the Children`s Nursing Research Unit. The Children`s Nursing Research Unit (CNRU), based at Alder Hey Children`s NHS Foundation Trust, was established in September 2008. Professor Bernie Carter leads this collaborative venture between Alder Hey and three partner higher education institutions: Liverpool John Moores, Edge Hill and University of Central Lancashire.

Candidates are expected to hold a good Honours (first class or upper second class) or postgraduate degree in a relevant area and able to demonstrate strong research potential. Experience of health service based research, experimental design and statistical analysis of data is desirable. The successful candidate will be based at Liverpool John Moores University and work under the supervision of Lyvonne Tume in collaboration with Professor Fiona Irvine and Professor Bernie Carter (CNRU) along with other clinically based supervisors at the Alder Hey Children`s NHS Foundation Trust.

The position is offered for 3 years (or the possibility of a part-time equivalent) (subject to satisfactory progress and transfer from MPhil to PhD), commencing June 2010. Funding will be provided by LJMU and includes a tax-free stipend of £13,290 and tuition fees payable at the Home/EU level (subject to satisfactory progress). As the studentship will involve working with children, appointment will be subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.

Applications are invited for a number of PhD studentship in the School of Engineering, Liverpool John Moores University. The studentships consist of a tax-free stipend (currently £ 13,290 per annum for the 2009-2010 academic year) and tuition fees.

We are seeking candidates with strong background and interest in the following areas, in which the School has well established research groups and advanced research facilities:

1. VLSI devices (Microelectronics Research Group): The research will be related to quality assessment of nanometre transistors and Flash memory cells, and the evaluation of new materials for future VLSI industry. The research work will be carried out in collaboration with world-leading microelectronic research institutes, such as IMEC. The applicants should have a background in electrical and electronic engineering or physics.

2. Power electronics (Electric Machines and Drives Research Group): The research will be in the area of voltage source inverter topologies and PWM techniques for variable-speed multiphase (more than three phases) motor drives. The applicants should have a background in electrical and electronic engineering, especially in the areas of power electronics, electric machines and variable speed drives, DSPs, and on-line control implementation.
