MSc Management and Information Systems Scholarship for Study by Distance Learning at University of Manchester

Overview
The School of Environment and Development invites applications for a fully-funded scholarship for candidates from developing countries for Master`s study by distance learning on the MSc Management and Information Systems. The scholarship will cover all study costs including tuition and examining fees and course material costs.

MSc Management and Information Systems
The MSc in M&IS develops the “hybrid” mix of management and information systems skills that we know from experience is essential to the successful and strategic application of information and communication technologies by today’s organizations.

It is designed to develop two groups of participants in developing and transitional economies: functional managers who wish to take greater control over, and make a more direct contribution to, change in their organizations via the development and implementation of information systems; and information systems professionals who wish to improve the success rate of the information systems they develop or use, and who may also wish to upgrade their management skills and knowledge.

The programme is offered by IDPM`s Development Informatics Group, with staff members contributing to the University`s Centre for Development Informatics.

European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) Scholarships, Erasmus Mundus, Europe

Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) is a two-year world-class integrated programme aimed at qualifying graduates to deal with the huge challenges in contemporary tourism.

Tourism is a total social and economic phenomenon, which calls for a holistic approach to tourism education where broader aims of the industry and society are explicitly addressed in tourism curricula. The European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM) provides students with a far-reaching and integrated understanding of the multiple disciplines and paradigms concerned with the subject which are bound together through the framework of sustainability.

The EMTM is a fully integrated two-year joint European programme promoted and tailor-made by three university partners: The University of Girona (Spain), known for its research and pursuit of teaching excellence in tourism product innovation and destination management; the University of Southern Denmark (Denmark), internationally recognized for its research and education in the field of sustainable tourism development; and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), renowned for its excellence in tourism policy design and tourism environmental management and economics. The medium of instruction is English.

Students follow a mandatory mobility scheme, starting the first semester in Esbjerg, Denmark, where they are introduced, at an advanced level, to the conceptualization of tourism development with particular attention to sustainability, strategic communication and economics. Moving next to Ljubljana, Slovenia, for the second semester, students learn about policy instruments, indicators and management tools available for tourism policy and strategy design, with emphasis on environmental issues in tourism development. Spending the third semester in Girona, Spain, students become competent in effectively implementing tourism with particular emphasis on the effective management of organizational networks, consumers, innovation processes and new tourism products. The fourth semester is exclusively devoted to the completion of the Master thesis.

The objective of this program is to support Indonesian future leaders in Forestry Management, Marine Resources Management, Clean Energy, Water and Sanitation, and Climate Change by providing master’s degree programs at accredited U.S. universities.

Target Participants:

Eligible candidates with strong potential for leadership may come from GOI offices that are working in any of the areas mentioned above, including PDAM (municipal water utilities), accredited Indonesian universities, civil society groups (associations, NGOs, foundations), and professionals working in this sector with international or local organizations.
Among those candidates that meet technical qualifications (below), an attempt will be made to balance candidate selection by gender, geographic affiliation, and public and private sector employment background/affiliation.

Technical Qualifications:
Candidates with appropriate academic qualifications, prior training and work experience in related fields with potential leadership in their field will be given preference. Specific preferred areas of prior work experience include, but are not limited to:

At the end of the program, students are able to identify commonalities as well as distinctive characters of economies, markets, and industries.

Australian Uranium Association (AUA) Indigenous Scholarship

The Australian uranium industry offers financial support for young Indigenous men and women undertaking tertiary study in areas relevant to uranium exploration and mining.

The Indigenous Leadership Scholarship Scheme is an initiative of the members of the Australian Uranium Association, who support local indigenous communities and wish to help build skills and capabilities of indigenous people in the regions where they do business.

The aim of the Indigenous Leadership Scholarship Scheme is to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to undertake full-time undergraduate studies in Science, Engineering or Business Management at an Australian University. The Scholarship Scheme is funded by the members of the Association, and is administered by the Australian Uranium Association.

Scholarship Value and Payment
Scholarships have a value of $10,000 per annum (GST exempt) per student for the duration of the undergraduate study. Payment will be made by the Australian Uranium Association via direct Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Payments will be made fortnightly equal to 1/26th of the annual scholarship amount.

PhD Scholarships in General Management, University of Bologna, Italy

The PhD program in General Management of the University of Bologna trains brilliant researchers in the fields of management, banking and finance by offering courses in two different tracks: Track in Management; Track in Banking and Finance. The program is created by the integration of two doctoral programs previously offered by the Department of Management: the PhD in Business Administration (Dottorato in Direzione Aziendale) and the PhD in Financial Markets and Intermediaries (Dottorato in Mercati e Intermediari Finanziari).

In addition to the attendance of core and elective courses, PhD students have the opportunity to attend seminars held by internationally renowned scholars, present their work at conferences, spend a research period of at least 6 months in international academic institutions. The courses are held in English. The PhD in General Management (3-year program) is organized by the Department of Management of the University of Bologna (www.sa.unibo.it).

In order to apply, a Master degree (laurea specialistica/magistrale) is required. The next edition of the PhD in General Management (26th cycle) will start in October 2010. 8 students will be admitted to the program and 4 scholarships will be offered. The number of scholarship-assisted places may increase thanks to the financial support of public or private institutions. The net amount of the scholarship is around 1000 Euro per month, for a 3-year period. The amount of the scholarship can be increased during the research period spent abroad (+50%) and through assistantships in teaching or contract research activities. Applications from foreign students are encouraged.
