European Master in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling (TCCM), Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus MundusTheoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling (TCCM) play a key role in the development of modern chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, physics and material science. This has motivated six Universities leaders in the key disciplines of the field to set a consortium and offer a joint TCCM Master course. The creation of this joint Master has two main objectives:

  • establish a European standard for Master training;
  • promote the international mobility of Master students

in the TCCM field. This idea has successfully attracted other 41 European higher education Institutions which have decided to join the TCCM Master consortium and has convinced the European Chemistry Thematic Network (ECTN) to support the initiative.

The TCCM Master is meant to prepare experts in using and developing molecular sciences computational techniques to either work with innovative pharmaceutical, petrochemical and new-materials industries or to follow future doctoral studies in Chemistry, Physics, Life or Material Sciences. It is articulated in 120 ECTS credits and can be accessed by students having a Bachelor in Chemistry, in Physics or in Material Science. Other scientific bachelors can also be accepted (provided that the student integrates his/her preparation as recommended by the local Tutor).

In the first year (M1), 12 ECTS credits are devoted to a levelling course, 3 to the improvement of the student’s command of a European language and 30 to compulsory courses in Mathematics, Statistical Mechanics, Molecular Quantum Mechanics, Programming and Numerical Methods; Group Theory; Reaction Dynamics and Spectroscopy delivered locally in the official language chosen by the participating Institution. The remaining 15 ECTS credits will be devoted to knowledge acquisition in Advanced Chemical Physics, Thermodynamics, Spectroscopy, Chemical Dynamics, Solid State Chemistry or other subjects chosen freely after advice by the student’s supervisor.

The 6 Neurasmus academic partners (Université Bordeaux Segalen, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, UMG Universitätsmedizin Göttingen, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Universidade de Coimbra, Université Laval) are sites of excellence in neuroscience and have a proven track record of close collaboration. Most of them are part of the European Neuroscience Campus Network, a new organization of Neuroscience Centres in Europe, with the aim to organize – and formalize – research collaborations, align grant acquisition strategies and create exchange opportunities at all levels of education and professional work.

In order to boost future brain research in Europe, Neurasmus offers a stimulating, interdisciplinary training environment for young neuroscientists with the goal to prepare them for future challenges in neuroscience research.

By joining the complementary forces of the consortium members, the programme offers a unique interdisciplinary and integrated approach of normal brain function and of brain diseases. By fostering collaboration of the scientists and institutions involved across Europe, the Neurasmus Joint Master Programme constitutes an excellent, pan-European networking and career development platform for the participating Master students.

Students will be introduced into the latest developments of Neuroscience according to the domains of excellence of each partner.
