PhD Scholarships in Hate Studies, University of Limerick, Ireland

The Hate and Hostility Research Group at the University of Limerick is delighted to announce that it will offer a fee waiver for PhD students beginning their studies in September 2017. While the Group is interested in all aspects of hate crime and hate studies, we are particularly interested in hearing from potential PhD students who are interested in researching one of the following:

  • Access to Justice for Minoritised Communities
  • Hate Crime in Minoritised Communities
  • Frontline Responses to Victims of Hate
  • Third Party Monitoring of Hate Crime
  • Educative Interventions for Hate Crime
  • Legal Frameworks for Addressing Hate Crime

Proposals can come from any discipline, though the expertise of the Group lies in the areas of sociology and law. Visiting Fellowships in History and Sociology, Bielefeld University, Germany

Bielefeld University GermanyEvery year, the BGHS invites four doctoral researchers (two each semester) from other countries to work at the Graduate School for four to six months to promote international scientific and cultural exchange. Visiting fellows have the opportunity to use their stay at the BGHS to work intensively on their dissertation, visit degree programme courses and build contacts to our scientific community. Fellows receive a computer work station for the duration of their stipend. The grant consists of a EUR 1,200 stipend per month. This amount will be supplemented by a child allowance if applicable. Upon application, travel costs can also be covered by the Graduate School.

Requirements
All international doctoral researchers may apply who are matriculated in a doctoral programme and whose dissertation has a historical, sociological, social-anthropological or political science focus. German nationals may also apply if their tertiary education has been at foreign universities. The visiting fellowships further networking with scientists at the BGHS, therefore no prolonged archival or research trips should take place within this period. To ensure that your project fits with the BGHS profile, you should take a close look at the areas of research covered by the BGHS. PhD Scholarships in Social Sciences, Brunel University, UK

We are delighted to announce nine funded PhD studentships* in social sciences at Brunel University for UK, EU and international students for a January 2012 start, (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The School of Social Sciences is providing opportunities for promising academic talent to undertake doctoral study. This is a significant opportunity for those who show academic excellence in our areas of expertise.

Successful applicants will be awarded £12,372 per annum over three years, which includes a fee-waiver of £3,732 and a stipend of £9,000. In exceptional cases an additional fee contribution for international students may be available.

Travel Grant for Starting Scholars from Overseas
The 84th Annual Meeting of the Japan Sociological Society

September 17 -18, 2011

The International Liaison Committee of the Japan Sociological Society (JSS) is pleased to announce its fifth annual Travel Grant competition for starting scholars living outside of Japan. The objective of this grant is to support up to 6 international sociologists who will present papers and participate in the JSS annual meeting in Japan. Each scholar selected will be awarded 80,000 yen to support accommodation and travel expenses.

Eligibility requirements:
To be eligible for support, the international applicant must:

  1. be currently living and working (or studying, if the applicant is a graduate student) outside of Japan. Scholars living in Japan, Japanese citizens, and permanent residents of Japan are NOT eligible to apply.
  2. hold a master’s degree or higher obtained within the past ten years as of April 2011 (the date of deadline).
  3. hold a membership in their country’s national sociological association (or equivalent scholarly association).
