International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS), Europe

The International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) is a 24 month Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) awarded by a consortium of three European universities – University of Glasgow (UK); Dublin City University (Ireland); and Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic).

Students on this degree programme will examine a broad range of contemporary security challenges, such as terrorism, civil war and conflict, mass migration, energy supply security, cyber security and new technologies, and transnational and serious organised crime. Students will also explore the intelligence and strategic approaches used by governmental and non-governmental actors to combat these threats.

IMSISS Erasmus Mundus scholarships can be offered to students from any region of the world; however, no more than three with the same nationality will be awarded in the same intake under the same category. The scholarship’s terms depend on the student’s nationality and residence.

The IMSISS Erasmus Mundus scholarship includes:

  • a contribution to the student participation costs (tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory participation costs)
  • a contribution to student travel and installation costs
  • a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study programme

If you apply for Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree Scholarship, you should specify your student category (depending on your nationality and residency status during the previous 5 years):

  • Programme Country (Programme Country nationals and applicants who have lived in a Programme country for more than 12 months over the last 5 years)
  • Partner Country (all other applicants)

It is the applicant’s responsibility to complete fully the application form and ensure it is returned electronically with all attachments in a single email to the relevant School contact by the deadline of Friday, 15 December 2017.

Applicants should note:

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. It is imperative, therefore, that all attachments are submitted with the application. Where referees wish to send references themselves, these MUST be received by the deadline.

  • Research proposals should adhere to prescribed word limits.

Eligibility:

  • Only new PhD students may apply (i.e. those commencing PhD study in October 2018).
  • Both full-time and part-time applicants may apply.
  • In order to be nominated for a Scholarship, applicants must hold an unconditional or conditional offer of a place on a College of Arts PhD degree programme. Scholarship applicants do not need to hold the admissions offer prior to the Scholarship application deadline of Friday, 15 December 2017. These will be issued by the Admissions team during January 2018.
  • Scholarships are not available to students at the “writing up” or “thesis pending” stage.
  • Applicants must not be holding another full Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic session. Applicants holding a part scholarship (e.g. fees only or stipend only) may still be considered.
