Utrecht University NetherlandsEligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, you must

  • Belong to the top 10% of your graduating class
  • Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
  • Have completed your secondary school and/or Bachelor degree outside the Netherlands
  • Have applied for an international master’s programme with a start date of September 1, 2019. Not all programmes participate, please check www.uu.nl/masters > master’s programme > Tuition fees and financial support to see if the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship is mentioned as a scholarship opportunity.

Scholarship amount
The Utrecht Excellence scholarship can be awarded as:

  • tuition fees, or
  • tuition fees plus 11.000 euro living expenses

As the grant is not automatically a full scholarship, it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance your studies and stay completely. Students requiring a residence permit in the Netherlands must prove to the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Office) that they have sufficient financial means. Read more about the budget the University advises.

Number of scholarships
20-25 scholarships will be available for 2019-2020, distributed across the 6 Graduate Schools.

Utrecht University NetherlandsThe Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture & Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA = the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) who wish to pursue a master’s degree in Holland.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for a Holland Scholarship, you must

  • Not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
  • Never before have been enrolled at an educational institution in the Netherlands
  • Have applied for an international master’s programme at Utrecht University with a start date of September 1, 2019
  • Meet the specific entry requirements of the programme

Scholarship amount
The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies as a single disbursement, even if you are enrolled in a two year programme.

Number of scholarships
23 scholarships are available for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Deadline
Prospective students who wish to be considered for the scholarship must apply before February 1 (00:00 Dutch time). Your application for a scholarship will only be processed if you have submitted an application for a Master’s programme as well.

Law Economics and Governance International Talent Scholarship (LEG ITS)
The LEG International Talent Scholarship (LEG ITS) programme offers a number of highly talented prospective students the opportunity to pursue a degree in one of the English taught Master’s programmes of the Graduate School of Law, Economics and Governance.

With this highly selective scholarship programme the Faculty wants to contribute and invest in talented international students who have shown the highest achievement in their career so far. This can be based on their academic quality and results from preceding education or from student’s societal engagement or career vision. Approximately 15 scholarships are awarded per year.

Criteria for eligibility
Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. The academic quality and results of the preceding education, as evidence, for example, by grades, test scores, publications, letters of recommendation;
  2. The student’s career vision, promise in the proposed field of study;
  3. The student’s societal engagement (e.g. extracurricular activities)
  4. The quality and relevance of the motivation letter;
  5. The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency)

In order to be awarded this scholarship students should:

  • have a non-Dutch nationality;
  • hold a non-Dutch secondary education degree;
  • have been admitted to one of the Master’s programmes mentioned above;
  • be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa if applicable;

Geosciences Scholarship, Utrecht University, Netherlands

Utrecht University NetherlandsThe Geosciences Scholarship offers outstanding prospective non-Dutch students the opportunity to pursue a degree in one of the Master’s programmes offered by the Graduate School Geosciences. The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates of the highest academic achievement and promise are eligible to receive a scholarship.

Duration and number of scholarships
Selected students will receive a scholarship for a minimum period of 12 and a maximum period of 24 months.

Amount of scholarship
Selected Master’s students are awarded a scholarship up to a maximum of 5,000 Euro per year, for a maximum duration of two years. In total this amounts to 10,000 Euro.

Aim of the programme
The scholarship is designed to make a significant contribution towards the costs of travel and living while studying in Utrecht; however it will be necessary to find additional funding to completely finance your study and stay in Utrecht. As one of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands, students from non EEA countries must prove to the IND (immigration and naturalisation office) that they have sufficient financial means. The university advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of 10,000 to 14,000 Euros per year to cover as a minimum costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation.

Selection procedure
The selection for the Geosciences Scholarship is carried out by the Board of Studies of the Graduate School Geosciences within the Faculty of Geosciences. The Board will determine the order of priority of all the eligible candidates on the basis of the criteria below. The funds awarded are exclusively linked to the Master’s programme for which they were granted. Awarded grants cannot be transferred to another starting date or other Master’s programmes.

Bijvoet Scholarships, Utrecht University, Netherlands

Utrecht University NetherlandsEvery summer, Bijvoet School organizes, together with the Utrecht Summer School a summerschool called “Exploring Nature’s Molecular Machines“.

You will experience the stimulating, international environment in our research laboratories and grasp first hand the meaning of interdisciplinary science. We will focus on the chemical principles underlying protein structure and function. We will examine how proteins fold into complex “molecular machines”, and how malfunction of individual proteins leads to failure and disease. We will combine lectures with experiments in research laboratories. You will be introduced to advanced methods in structural biology, molecular cell biology and biophysics to study protein machines at atomic resolution. The interdisciplinary range of methods includes NMR, mass spectrometry and proteomics, crystallography, fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy.

Deadline for registration: April 4, 2017

The Summerschool Exploring Nature’s Molecular Machines aims to select 3 talented candidates for the Bijvoet Scholarships.

Each scholarship covers:

  • 50% of (reasonable) travel costs;
  • 50% of the costs for Utrecht Summerschool housing;
  • 100% of the course fee.

Obviously, condition for reimbursement is attending the course and the successful candidates will be reimbursed at the end of the course.

Criteria for eligibility
Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
  2. The academic quality and results of the preceding education, as evidenced, for example, by grades, test scores, publications, letters of recommendation;
  3. The quality and relevance of the motivation letter (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
  4. The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).
